This national park is located in the India s northeastern portion of Assam. The nearest access to this park is Guwahari 176 kilometers away from Manas. It is very famous for the tigers, elephants and rhinoceros that reside in the area. The area covers more than 391 sq. kilometers. It lies within the foothills of Himalayas.

A part of it extends in the country of Bhutan, considered as a sanctuary and was officially declared as one during the 1st of October 1928. In addition, this site is also declared as a World Heritage Area in the late 1980s. It is a habitat of a great selection of wildlife which includes the golden langur, hispid hare, wild buffalo, pigmy hog and one horned rhino as well as gaur, elephant, hog deer and much more.

Manas National Park is widely known for its project elephants and rhinos. In addition, this site is also considered as one of the tiger projects in the country. The wealth of wildlife and scenic beauty of this world heritage site offers an enthralling experience to anyone who visits the area. The best time to come and visit is during the months of November up to April.

How to Get to the Manas National Park

You could take the road to go to this park. Buses regularly take the Guwahati and Barpeta Road route. The approximate time when riding a bus is 4 hours.

By air, the National Park of Manas is situated about 176 kilometers from the city of Guwahati. The closest airport in the area is the Borihar International Airport. This airport lies about 5 kilometers away from the park. This airport can be reached by auto rickshaws, rickshaws as well as airline buses.

Another option is via trains. The nearest railway transit or station is located along the Barpeta Road.

Activities in Manas National Park

The handiest gadget if you want a spot wildlife in this wonderful national park is binoculars. Binoculars with night vision capability are probably the best gadget to bring when visiting the area. The best way to see and explore it is within a jeep safari vehicle. In addition, you can enjoy a boat ride in the Manas River which travels from Mathaguri and ends within a 35 kilometer radius.

There are lots of activities you can do once inside the attraction. The most popular activity in the area is the elephant ride organized by the authorities of the park from Mathanguri. It will take you to the deepest and densest areas in the forests. You will also see a considerable number of wildlife such as rhinos, wild buffalos and elephants while you are enjoying your elephant ride. It is not advisable to visit this area during monsoon season since most of the animals are hiding from view. Furthermore, this park closes on this season.

Where to Sleep when Visiting Manas National Park

One option is the Forest Lodge located near the Manas National Park. It lies within the Mathanguri area.

You could also go to the Manas Jungle Camp. This is a Community Conservation Tourism Project in the city of Kokilabari adjacent to the eastern area of the national park. It has 4 cottages with a unique ethnic ambience. In addition, this camp lies in a plantation for rearing Assam s famous muga silk.
