Healthy Skin Care Starts With the Ingredients

If you are looking for healthy skin care solutions, take a few moments to read this article. You may be surprised to learn about some of the “un healthy” ingredients that are commonly used by major cosmetic companies. Not only can they cause adverse and allergic reactions, right away, they can also contribute to an aged appearance. Let’s start with the most common of all.

It’s called petrolatum and if you look at the ingredients labels on lotions, makeup, shampoo, shaving cream and other health and beauty aids, you will see it listed more often than not. It is the real reason that manufacturers make some products for oily, some for dry, some for combination, some for sensitive and some for acne prone skin.

Basically, it is white petroleum jelly or Vaseline. It causes excessive oiliness and if used for more than a couple of days, it causes blemishes (pimples), presumably because it clogs the pores, although it may contribute to inflammation by interfering with the skin’s natural rejuvenation processes. Either way, it is a problematic ingredient.

Really healthy skin care products do not contain petrolatum or mineral oil, which is a similar compound. Paraffin wax and liquid paraffin should also be avoided. If you feel you must have your chap stick, there’s a reason. It has paraffin wax in it.

These compounds are fine when used occasionally. For example, if you have chapped lips, because of a day on the ski slopes, paraffin wax helps to lock in moisture and protects against further wind damage. So, your lips are less likely to crack and bleed. But, things like chap stick and lipstick containing paraffin wax should not be used on a regular basis, because they actually contribute to excessive dryness and peeling.

Healthy skin care products contain natural plant based oils, like jojoba, grape seed and olive, because they do not clog the pores or strip the skin’s natural moisturizers. They can be used by anyone, regardless of their complexion type.

Beeswax, rather than paraffin, helps heal chapped lips. Honey is always a good ingredient, because of the antioxidants that it contains. Some varieties have more antioxidant activity than others. Manuka honey, for example, is the most active variety and it has natural anti bacterial activity.

Anti aging skincare creams are usually some of the most “un healthy”. The ingredients found in them include urea, a compound found in urine and other waste products.

If you want healthy skin care creams that prevent and help to reverse the signs of aging, look for an ingredient called CYNERGY TK. It is a proprietary compound containing zinc, copper and the protein keratin. It is extracted from sheep’s wool and processed gently, so that the protein remains active.

The skin’s cells will absorb it and use it. It stimulates the production of new cells and fibers, contributes to the skin’s moisture content and helps to fight inflammation. Nutrients like protein and the elements copper and zinc are the only ingredients that should be included in healthy skin care products. If you care about your skin’s health, those are the only things you will put on it.
