YOUR Commitment Comes First!

“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, the providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way. I learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets:

Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it.
Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”

-- W.H. Murray

As a home-based business entrepreneur, the development of a powerful team will be vital to your success. Yet paradoxically, you need to be willing to do whatever it takes all by yourself before such a team can galvanize around you.

Before you ask others to join you, you need to know where you are going and know that nothing can (and will) stop you.

It is even more powerful if you are also vividly clear about your “why”.

When you are clear about where you are going and why, you are in the ideal position to select a mentor and get into action.

Others may question and/or challenge your goals and plans in the beginning; but once they see that you are sticking with it, your team will begin to develop and more serious entrepreneurs will be attracted to you and your enterprise.

At this point, I would like to share with you one of the biggest “secrets” I have learned along the way … Here it is:

MANAGE ACTIVITY!

You, and you alone, are in direct control of your activity. You cannot directly control your results, when your results depend on the free-will choices of others … Allow me to illustrate with the following example.

Let’s say you’ve decided that you want to achieve a certain income level by a certain date …. so you begin to get into action. You realize that the keys to success include

Using your company’s products and developing your “story”,
Talking to people about the products and the opportunity,
Using the tools of the business, so that you are more efficient and duplicatable.

You’ve used the products for a couple of months and have a good product story. You’ve also familiarized yourself with the successful stories of many others. You have a good working knowledge of the “tools” and have worked with your mentor to develop a repeatable system to follow.

You’ve made your initial list of prospects, and now you are ready to EXPOSE your business (products and opportunity).

Here’s the key idea:

Commit to a certain number of EXPOSURES per week (rather than committing to a certain number of products sold or new associates enrolled).

This will keep you in your power, as the number of exposures is well within your direct control. You can now adopt a posture of “non-attachment”. It becomes all about THEM .. Are THEY interested? Is now a good time for THEM? … It’s a whole new ballgame!

Let’s put some numbers to this example, shall we? If you committed to 10 exposures per week, you would have about 500 exposures per year.

Now, don’t you think that at least two things would happen in that first year? Firstly, you would likely develop AT LEAST 2 serious business builders (if not more), enroll many other less serious associates, and in addition, some retail customers would likely emerge.

Secondly, you would likely become VERY GOOD at what you are doing, since you would have lots of practice.

Also, if you learned the art of asking for referrals, as well as the ability to get people’s permission to stay in touch with them from time to time, you may likely never run out of “warm market” contacts!

Lastly, this system is very DUPLICATABLE. 10 Exposures per week sounds “do-able” for most sincerely interested people.
Once you are committed to doing this, NOTHING can stop you! Others will eventually learn of your success and they will become curious about what you are doing.

You have established a pattern that works and can be repeated by yourself and others.

As your skills improve, you will become a mentor for others, and even that, can be duplicated as well.

So in review ….

• Commit;
• Know where you are going, and why;
• Choose a mentor;
• Develop a game plan;
• Institute the plan;
• Manage activity;
• Improve your skill level;
• Mentor others;
• Teach others to do the same.

As someone once said … “Inch by inch, it’s a cinch!”
