Support group for caregivers meets monthly
Individuals who care for loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer's disease are invited to join a caregiver support group that will meet at 11 a.m. Aug. 28 at Catholic Charities, 1423 Kass Circle. A social worker with HPH Hospice will serve as the facilitator. There is no cost to attend and no reservations are required. The group, which meets the last Friday of each month, is a partnership between HPH Hospice, Catholic Charities, Mid-Florida Community Services, Community Action Partnership and the United Way. Nonprofits invited to apply for grants
Nonprofit organizations can submit applications now through Nov. 2 for the 2009 VISTA Community Grants Program. The grants program supports charitable groups whose programs or services contribute to improving the health of the community in areas such as preventive health, health education, disease management, community health initiatives/outreach, improving health care services, controlling health care costs and reducing the number of people who do not have health insurance. VISTA is a Florida-based health benefits organization.

Dice run benefits military children
ABATE of Florida Freedom Chapter and Marine Corps League Detachment 708 will host a Scholarship Fundraiser Dice Run on Aug. 22, with signups from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Marine Corps League facility at 8405 Sunshine Grove Road, west of Brooksville. The cost is $20 per card or $25 for two. The run will include stops at VFW Post 9236 in Hernando Beach, MCL Detachment 567 in Holiday, VFW Post 10209 in Spring Hill and VFW Post 8713 in Brooksville and will end back at the MCL Detachment 708. The last bike in will be at 4 p.m. Funds raised will go toward scholarships for military children
