The five steps below is just a suggestion. Learn from it and work out your own method in achieving your dream job.
Discover What You Want
The most difficult part about searching for a dream career is not about looking for the dream career. It is about seeking oneself. The first question that needs to be answered is “What do I want?” It is somehow just a simple question but many people answer it by telling what they DON’T WANT instead of actually saying what they like.
Focus on what you want instead of what you do not want. The answer does not have to come immediately. It may be a gradual process as you go about with your life. The important thing is to be attuned to yourself. Listen to what your heart and mind is telling you. The answer just might come at the most unexpected moment. And when that happens, accept it and keep an open mind.
Know Your Values
It is very important to be your own person and identify your own values. The values you adhere and hold to will somehow take you to your dream job. If you value time with your family, look for ways to be with them at longer periods. Find ways to get out of desk jobs that tie you down for 8 hours or more.
Know How Much You Are Willing To Sacrifice
There will always be sacrifices towards achieving a dream job. It is not really a difficult thing to do, but more of a matter of choice if you want to sacrifice something or not. Analyze carefully your decisions. For example, if you go back to school for further studies, that might mean less free time to see friends of your family. It is in a way also a matter of prioritizing for a greater good to happen in the future.
Do It for the Right Reasons
Motivate yourself for the right reasons. Go for that dream job because you want to be happy. You want to do the thing you love doing most. You want to inspire others. You want to grow and be a better person. Getting paid for it is just a bonus.
The Simplest Part
If you think you have readied yourself already, you are on your way to finding your dream job.
Research all you can about the industry you want to go into. Look for job openings and find out the qualifications they are looking for. The Internet is a good place to begin. Read books and stories that will inspire you to go for your dream career. Send out resumes to as many companies as possible and be prepared when you are called for an interview.
Network with the right people that will bring you closer to the industry you are aiming for. Be aware of the people in the industry so that the person may get a feel of what it is like when they were already there. This also prepares a person for a target short term work if the chance comes for some hands on experience before making that leap.
Enroll in additional courses if you need to. Never stop learning and always be on the lookout for opportunities. And when the time comes, do not hesitate to grab the opportunity. Sometimes it is also about the right timing.
