Cordless drills are useful working tools. It could be a dangerous machine if not used properly. Learn some safety measures in handling it.

Working tools are very helpful to our jobs for as long we know how to handle them carefully and properly. The same is true with cordless drills. This machine is useful in boring holes on several surfaces like wood, metal or plastic. Use it with caution always to prevent accidents.

The first thing that you must remember is to never ever use the cordless drill in damp or watery places. Even if the cordless drill is not connected to an electric socket, it is still electrically powered when it is running on battery. This is called dry current or DC power. Any device that runs on electric current is very sensitive to water based materials. It might get short circuit problems when they get wet or damp accidentally. Short circuits can lead to electrocution, injuries, or fire accidents.

The second thing that you must follow is to never use cordless drills in places near explosive gases. Cordless drills emit heat or at times, produce sparks while being used. This heat or spark may trigger the volatile gases to explode. It is likely to cause serious fires and will damage a lot of property.

The third thing to remember is to make use of protective gears and shielding wear ons like goggles or glasses. Drilling usually creates sparking debris and may get into your eyes. It may cause irritations or worse, may pierce your eyes and cause more serious injuries. It is also advisable to wear working gloves. And always remember to keep your hands far from the working area.

Fourth, avoid wearing very loose outfits because it might get in the way with the cordless drill. Also avoid wearing any accessories like long dangling necklaces. Tie up your hair in a bun if it is long. All these may get in the way of the machine and cause it to malfunction.

The fifth precautionary measure is to keep your fingers out of the trigger always. You never know when it will be accidentally pressed. Hold it on the grip instead.

The sixth thing that you must remember when working with the cordless drill is use holding devices like vise grip or clamp for materials being drilled. This practice may contribute in keeping your work exact and free from accidental falling or moving of the materials being drilled.

Seventh, never hold the drill bit after using the cordless drill. The machine is hot right after use. You can hurt or burn yourself. You should also never attempt to change the drill bit right after using the cordless drill also. It is because the drill bit is so hot which can harm your fingers and palm. In some cases, newly used drill bits produced first degree burns when it was is accidentally touched with bare skin.

Another tip is to stay away from adaptor or charger aside from the prescribed one that comes with the tool. Incompatible chargers or adaptors can greatly damage not only the battery of the cordless drill but also the entire device. In a number of instances, using incompatible charger or adaptor caused fire.

And last but not the least advice is to always work in a safe environment. If you have children at home, be sure that they are far from the working area. Make sure that no person in the way before starting to drill. If the machine malfunctions for whatever reason, no person nearby will be harmed. If you are working with an assistant, make sure he is also practicing the same precautionary measures mentioned above.
