Share a Holiday Adventure With Your Family

Family treks are a great option for a family holiday with a difference, where the old and young can enjoy trekking and hill walking together. There are a number of family adventure holidays created so different generations can explore the world’s most dramatic landscapes together.

Together with the well publicised Mt Everest (8,848m) summit bids of climbers in their 60s, a young man called Johnny Strange has helped demonstrate that age is no reason for missing out on the beauty of the world’s more challenging landscapes. In a series of high profile record breaking climbs, he became the youngest person to summit the highest peaks in seven continents. He completed this feat at the age of just seventeen years in June 2009.

Johnny began climbing mountains seriously when he was just twelve, as part of a rather unconventional family adventure holiday with his father. Together they scaled Mount Vinson Massif (4,892 m) in 2004, conquering the highest peak in the Antarctica continent, and leaving Johnny with six more continents to look down upon.

Of course, there are much safer and less ambitious ways to enjoy the mountains on a family holiday. An exciting alternative to a conventional hill walking holiday is to take one of the family treks in exotic destinations such as Bhutan, Peru, and the Indian Himalaya. The holiday that will really catch the eye though, is the one that offers, among other highlights, eleven days trekking in the Everest valley.

You and your family can visit the vibrant and ancient city of Kathmandu, immerse yourselves in the culture of the Sherpa people, and take in Nepal’s spectacular mountain scenery. The children will also love seeing the famous yeti scalp in the village of Khunde along the Everest trekking trail.

These family adventure holidays vary in difficulty, from the gentle family treks to ones that are more vigorous. Family treks are suitable for youngsters that already enjoy the outdoors, giving them the opportunity of experiencing the wonders of the Everest region (properly known as the Khumbu). With help from native Sherpa guides, with their extensive local knowledge, and experienced trek leaders, your family will be in very safe hands. Even children between the ages of six and eight can be provided for. If they feel tired with the walking there are specially designed padded baskets so they can be carried by the porters.

The Everest family trek will allow you to take a close look at the Himalayan Mountains, while camping or staying in mountain lodges in the Khumbu. The route this family holiday will take includes a visit to Namche Bazaar and the monastery at Thyangboche. These are the same amazing sites that trekkers on the famous Everest Base Camp Trek will visit. After seeing this, your children are certain to catch the trekking bug, and will want to see more of this marvellous landscape as they grow up.

Find out more about the family treks that allow you to share a once in a lifetime experience with the ones you love; a healthy and thrilling way to share an adventure on family holiday.
