Falkirk is a town based in Stirlingshire, the centre of Scotland. Falkirk is recognised for its steel and iron industry during the 18th century, right through to the 19th century. In recent years the service industry has taken over from the heavy industry which peaked during the Industrial Revolution.

An attraction that is definitely worth visiting is the Falkirk Wheel which is a boat transportation device that rotates. It was built in order to connect the Union Canal with the Forth & Clyde Canal and has been powered by the Millennium Commission therefore you will find cafes so visitors can enjoy the location. The wheel is famous for being unique as it is the only one that rotates.

For a historic experience of the town visitors can go to Kinneil Museum. The museum specialises in a fantastic exhibition named '2000 Years of History' which showcases Falkirk's local heritage dating back from the Roman times to modern day. The museum also looks closely at key historical characters including Queen of Scots and St Serf.

Situated near to Kinneil Museum is Antonine Wall, an award winning monument built in AD142 representing the Roman invasion into Scotland. The wall goes on for 73 miles covering Tyne and Solway Firth and previously stood as a link for networks of forts structured two miles apart around the wall. Antonine Wall has been a recipient of the 'World Heritage Site' award in current years making it a grand attraction for all visitors.

Another exciting museum that may be worth a visit is Bo'ness Motor Museum which houses a selection of well known vintage vehicles that have been used in cinema and Television. Here you will come across world famous car models such as the Jaguar XJ6 Series III that was filmed in Hollywood film production, 51st State. The museum also has enjoyable facilities for children featuring a play area known as The Fun Factory which draws emphasis on the film, Monsters Inc. Other facilities include a bar decorated with a James Bond theme, and a Diner catering meals and snacks.

A great way to learn more about the foundation of Falkirk is to visit Callender House which takes you through six centuries of the country's history. Here you will find costumed performers illustrating key characters that have made Scotland as it stands today. The most dynamic area within the building is the kitchen representing the period of 1825 whereby visitors even get the chance to taste food from this era as samples are available.

For shopping, you can visit The Mall Falkirk which is an indoor shopping centre located in the town centre. The Mall Falkirk offers a variety of popular retail stores including River Island, Wallis, USC, New Look, Marks & Spencer, Officers Club, JD Sports, Argos, HMV and many more trendy brands. There are 5 levels of shopping space and eating amenities can be found on level 5 with food and drink available at Mathiesons Café. The shopping centre is open every day of the week however opening and closing times may vary according to the day.
