F.C. Barcelona - The Secret behind the Success

It is impossible to imagine that anyone who has even the slightest interest in the wonderful sport of football is unaware of FC Barcelona's immense season, both domestically (winning the "La Liga" and the Spanish Cup) and internationally (Victory over England's Manchester United in the finals of the European Champions League).

But what is it that makes this FC Barcelona so successful (especially considering the fact that they were led by a coach of less than a year's coaching experience)?

There are many possible answers to this question: some would attribute FC Barcelona's success to the quality of its players, with the likes of Messi (arguably the best player on the face of the Earth), Iniesta, Henry and Eto'o. While others might point out depth of FC Barcelona squad, with world class players like Hleb and Gudjohnsen waiting for their opportunity on the bench.

These above mentioned reasons for FC Barcelona's great season, while undoubtedly relevant and perhaps even "right on the money", do not even begin to tell the complete story behind the success story of the Catalan giant.

When taking a glimpse at the players of the squad one can not help but notice that several, and perhaps even most, of the team's biggest stars are young players which were "brought up" in the fantastic youth program of the club, making their way patiently through the club's youth teams, all the while continuing to develop their game, until their arrival to FC Barcelonas's first squad.

Such path was taken by the likes of Messi, Iniesta, Pique, Xabi, Puyol, as well as other players which learned their basics at Barca's football schools and are not showcasing their skills elsewhere (such as Fabregas in Arsenal, for example).

It can not be a coincidence that it is these players who are now leading the FC Barcelona forward to perhaps the finest moments in its long and rich history, especially when looking at the completely different approach of arch rivals Real Madrid, who have a tendency to disregard their youth players and rather focus on attempts of signing international stars to join their ranks. Such approach as demonstrated by Real Madrid seems perhaps exciting in theory, but as the entire football community witnessed - in practice this approach did them very little good, as the "Blancos" from Madrid found themselves only second best to FC Barcelona in the local league, and having suffered its most humiliating defeat at the hands of the very same Barca, at their own arena of all places.

As far as FC Barcelona are probably concerned, Real can continue spending their time searching for the next star to throw their millions at. In Barcelona they develop their own stars for free.
