DRTV or Traditional Advertising: Which is Best?

Marketing a product to the masses is not cheap and although DRTV is affordable when compared to traditional television advertising it's still not a small amount of money. In many cases the cost of advertising on television is the only real barrier marketers face. They may have the next product that will make everyone's lives so much better, but if they are lacking the funds to market that product then it won't go anywhere. While traditional television advertising is very expensive, DRTV is more accessible and offers some significant benefits that regular advertising doesn't.

Return on Investment
For traditional advertising there is no specified time frame for a return on the initial investment. This can put marketers in a precarious position because they don't know when they will have the funds they need to keep the company afloat. On the other hand, with DRTV as soon as the infomercial airs money will begin coming back to the company. In fact, it's possible for the entire amount that was spent to be earned back in a single day of advertising. As long as it's a quality product that appeals to the masses it is totally possible to regain everything that was spent early in the campaign. That is a huge benefit to marketers using DRTV because they may get a loan for the DRTV campaign and then with the success of the product they are able to quickly repay it.

Traditional Commercials
Traditional commercials have a limited scope although they do have their space in an overall marketing plan for some companies. Traditional commercials are short and basically provide viewers with a fast overview of the product. There is no demonstration or in depth review nor is there any contact information. Customers are left wondering where to find the product they are interested in and often times end up buying a competitor's product because they can't find the original. Perhaps the biggest drawback of traditional commercials is that they don't provide any real information on the product. Just a glimpse of who makes it and what it does, but that's it.

DRTV programming allows viewers to watch short segments of an infomercial and learn all about the product, how it works, how much it costs, and what URL or phone number they need to call to make the purchase. DRTV makes it easy to sell a product because viewers can quickly see what the product is, how it will benefit their life, and then purchase it right away from the comfort of their own home. That's what makes DRTV beneficial over traditional advertising.
