Learning the Art of Karate

Learning karate requires dedication and patience. Learn more on some of the basic exercise which will help you in mastering your fighting techniques.

Many people are becoming interested in learning martial arts either for self defense or for physical fitness. There are different kinds of martial arts that specialize in different aspects. They originated from different countries also.

One of the most popular martial arts around the world is karate. Karate has originated many thousand years ago. It is known as an ancient form of combat derived from the Chinese Gongfu. This martial art has been developed with some variations through different generations.

Karate in its own form makes use of fighting techniques which includes grappling, kicking, punching, twisting and ground fighting. It can either be armed or unarmed fighting technique.

Learning karate involves some basic steps which you need to know and master. You proceed to more advanced fighting techniques as you master the previous lessons. Here are some of the most basic exercises you can use in learning the art of karate.

First is warm up exercises. This is essential before doing any demanding physical activity like karate. Spend at least ten to twenty minutes of warm up and do some sit ups, push ups and running.

Stretching exercises are the next step. It is an important in loosening up your muscles to lessen the tendency of any injury. It is recommended to spend at least 15 minutes or more of stretching the arms, legs, neck, and heel joints.

Meditation exercises are another important aspect in your training. When meditating, you must do your best to clear out your mind of any thoughts that might distract you during your training. Do some inhale and exhale exercises while your eyes are closed. Visualize yourself as if you are in an empty room and allow your energy to flow in your whole body. You must relax and concentrate your mind on your training. It is advisable to do this exercise for about five minutes or more.

Punching and blocking exercise is very basic in karate. This is the first combat and defense exercise you are going to experience in your karate training. This exercise will provide you the fundamentals you are going to need for attacking and defending yourself from enemy attack.

This involves using techniques which includes upper cuts, punches, elbow strike, knife chop and the spear hand. As you practice attacking, you also have to learn blocking techniques related to the attack techniques. Do these exercises in alternate order. You can perform these exercises for a period of twenty minutes.

There are also a lot of kicking exercises. It will help develop the strength of your legs. It will also enhance your coordination. The feet are one of the strongest parts of the body and it is vital to develop its strength and develop the power. Practice kicking with different movements until you can feel the rhythm coming through you. You can perform this exercise for at least fifteen minutes.

Sparring exercises are close to the actual execution of the lessons learned in karate. This exercise is one of the most important in learning karate. Through sparring, you will have an actual experience with the fighting techniques you have learned. Sparring not only helps you in mastering your blocking and attacking techniques but will enhance your reflexes. You will develop your agility and coordination of your hand and body movement crucial in learning martial arts.

Finally, as you practice and master your karate skills it is also important to develop self discipline. This means you have to practice religiously and also to maintain your physical fitness through proper diet. You will surely see good results if you follow these exercises.
