Venice and its territory can boast numerous artistic and literary events along all year, offering to the tourists an always wide and varied offer of cultural proposals, that can fit every taste.

During summer, for example, tourists that will go to Venice can admire a lot of events, celebrations and exhibitions, to make their stays more pleasant but also enrich their cultural background.

In the centenary of the publication of the Manifesto of Futurism by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, we will be able to admire a lot of futurist’s masterpieces, a dutiful homage to the avant-garde artistic movement entitled “Futurism in the Collection of Gianni Mattioli”. The special exhibition, curated by Philip Rylands, in the permanent exhibition rooms of the museum focuses on a journey between the futuristic masterpieces of the Gianni Mattioli collection and paintings, sculptures and works on paper from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and from private collections.

Another very important event is the famous Regata Storica. The most beautiful and most important of the Venetian celebrations that has taken place almost unchanged for over six hundred years. The historical boats, which have made the history of the lagoon city parade along the Grand Canal, Venice’s most prestigious waterway, to revive for a day the splendor and memory of the Serenissima Republic that dominated the Adriatic Sea for centuries. Visitors who book a hotel in Venice between 18 and 19 July, will observe this competition among vessels, where participate men and women who have always lived with the oar in one hand, these people love and respect the sea and are bearers of a tradition that is lost in the mists of time. The term Regatta has a difficult derivation: some writers of venetian history and traditions go back to the Latin term auriga, from which comes the word race (gara in Italian); others go back to the term remicata, which in turn is derived from remus (oar in Latin); more likely the term comes from riga (line), that is the placement that boats have before the departure.

From 7 June to 22 November, however, John Cale will present a new installation specially commissioned by Wales. The project will condense a long lyrical and poetic tradition that marks the cultural history of Wales and will have at its center the peculiar relationship of Cale with the Welsh language and more generally with the themes related to communication.

But not only art, for residents and tourists the city promotes from 21 to 23 May 2009 three intense literacy days in contact with human and artistic experiences of some of the most famous writers from around the world. With this event, which will have a major role through the main cultural events, the Venice Municipality and the Ca’ Foscari University fill a void: the literature was the only major art which could not count (in the city of the visual arts, cinema, dance and theater Biennale) on a world class event in Venice.
Among the authors present there will be Orhan Pamuk, Nobel Prize for literature, Salman Rushdie, one of the most famous living writers, the French author Yves Bonnefoy, a major poet in the world and many others.
