Contemporary Bathroom Vanity is Considered Trendy Because of Its Understated Beauty and Linear Appearance

Buy a contemporary vanity for a contemporary style of bathroom. Antique vanities are good, but they are much too bulky and ornate to go with the simple lines of a modern bathroom or current styles of fixtures. On the other hand, a contemporary bathroom vanity with its understated beauty and linear appearance is just fit for such a bathroom. However, it is important to remember that such a fixture should be equally functional. In fact, if one has to choose between beauty and utility of the piece, one should put more emphasis on the later rather than on the former.

Happily, one rarely has to do that. A contemporary bathroom vanity is generally designed by the trained designers and they put equal emphasis on beauty and utility. That is why such pieces are generally as functional as they are beautiful. Agreed, some pieces may have very limited storage space. Then again, some vessel sinks are shaped such that they are fit more for hotel powder rooms rather than for regular bathrooms. Nonetheless, those are just exceptions; most of them do justice to their name.

Vanity is actually a bathroom cabinet. It has mainly three functions:

Primarily it holds the bathroom sink. Such vanities come in all sizes and so you can easily find one suitable for your bathroom. However, in very small powder rooms, pedestals often replace the vanity. Use of brackets to hold the sink is also quite popular.

In the days when the plumbing lines were still in very crude stage, vanities hid them from general view and so the bathrooms looked quite neat and fashionable. However, today higher technology and better materials have made the plumbing lines more presentable and so it is not a very big deal now.

Remember, a vanity is actually a cabinet. The space under the sink has always been used to accommodate drawers and shelves for storage purpose. It is only that some provides more space, some less.

The storage space a contemporary bathroom vanity provides is generally less than that provided by an antique or a transitional vanity because the former is essentially minimalist in design. That is why it often comes with matching wall cabinet to supplement the need for adequate storage. However, not every bathroom needs such a large storage space. Even in such a case, the vanity must have enough space to keep the bathroom toiletries at hand.

For example, the guest bathroom does not require much of a storage space. However, even in such a case, place to keep the toiletries must be there. Therefore, while you choose the bathroom vanity, choose with care. If the space as well as finance permits, go for modern double vanities. As these vanities have two sinks, set side by side in a single vanity, they not only require larger space, but also cost more. However, they make a better impact and can make a focal point of the bathroom décor.

The contemporary bathroom vanity, be that double or single, is generally made from a combination of materials such as wood, glass, metal like stainless steel or brass, stones like granite or marble. The clever combination of these materials as well as their unique designs makes them stand apart from the rest.

Take the glass vanities for example. The combination of glass and good quality stainless steel can make a very striking impact, especially if it can be placed against the right background. The lighting should be just right too. In fact, glass modern double vanities have become very popular today because of their understated beauty. At the same time, remember that, they may appear very delicate, but thanks to technological improvement, they are anything but that. They are unobtrusive and yet if you place them against the right background, they can be very striking too. You can also have them wall-hung. Such vanities save floor space.

The vessel sinks too have given the contemporary bathroom vanities a new look. These sinks are fitted on the countertop and come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and materials. You can give your bathroom new look off and on simply by changing these sinks. As they are fitted on top rather than inside the hollow, they are easy to remove and easy to install. You can do that yourself if you are a little handy.
