Make sure to stay consistent with your word choices when you are training your dog; you do not want to use 2 different words for the same command. This makes it easy for your dog to learn what you are asking for. You have to be consistent to stimulate your dog's memory. By doing this, you will have a higher rate of success with training your pet.

Keeping your dog outdoors when you are not home is a good way to prevent chewing. If you have an indoor dog that is not kennel trained, then close them out of the rooms in which they like to chew.

Tell your house guests how to interact with your pooch. This is exactly the kind of behavior that makes your dog forget his training.

If you have a knock-down, drag-out fight with your kids or reprimand another pet, your voice could impact your dog's training. If your dog has been good, do not treat him badly!

It is very easy to train some dogs in groups, but some dogs might have personalities that clash, making training them together impossible. Dogs have the tendency to distract each other. If you find this happening it is likely best to separate them.

Your dog needs to be mentally stimulated just like a human does. Going for walks, giving them puzzle toys, and playing directly with them will keep them occupied and content. Any dog who is bored will find a number of ways to amuse himself and spend his time, such as chomping your favorite pair of shoes or digging up your prized botanical collection!

Teach everyone in your family to use the same commands to train your dog. For example, one person correcting your dog from jumping by saying "get off" and another using "down boy" will confuse the dog and be counterproductive to your training efforts. Your dog is less likely to become confused and will respect everyone in the household if your family makes a few efforts.

When crate training an indoor dog or puppy, you may try some tricks. If the dog doesn't want to go inside the crate, put a rawhide bone in there and shut the door. They will see the toy inside the crate and will want in the crate to get it. When he does, praise him for it so he knows it was a good thing to do.

Do not be too proud to contact a professional for assistance. If your dog is misbehaving, you should try to get some help from a dog whisperer. A professional trainer can help you you back on track, and teach you how to properly train your dog.

If you want to keep your dog trim and healthy, keep an eye on how many reward snacks you give him while training him. Treats will add up when you are training your dog, be careful to not overlook them.

If at all possible, dog training should really begin as a puppy. Puppies will take in training better than an older dog. Teaching your dog good behavior from a young age is great way to help it grow as a pet that becomes respectful.
