Akron is a city in the US state of Ohio and a principal city of Akron Metropolitan Statistical Area, covering Summit and Portage Counties. It has a combined population of about 694,960 as of the 2000 census.
The city was founded in the year 1825 close to the Ohio and Erie Canal. It became a manufacturing center. In the year 1985 Akron Fulton International Airport was recognized as the third National Landmark of Soaring through the National Soaring Museum.
