Love, just like beauty and art, is often a work in progress. It's built on a foundation of trust, polished with respect, and filled with friendship and strength. Naturally, you'll find occasional cracks in the plaster from fights, nonetheless they can be spackled over with apologies and mended almost like they never were. If you find yourself first starting on your path though, love is usually an idea - a blueprint of what you'd someday like to have. And even though you may have a potential partner, you need to really trust them before you risk saying those three little words: I love you.
That single statement can change everything. In a moment, you have opened a door that you didn't think you would, and you've offered to let another person inside your heart. And once you hear that phrase repeated from the one you love, it's a feeling that's one of a kind among all of the other firsts that you might have had. Occasionally, the feeling is really strong enough that it will echo down over time and you'll be able to hear that one moment whenever you see that person again. Like several relationship milestones, it would be something that you wish to dedicate something for to reflect upon.

Needless to say, that's where the question of relevance comes in. Young couples will often have a monthly or perhaps a yearly anniversary of the day. You could go to the same place, do the same thing just like you would a pageant to recreate the moments that lead up to that firstI love you. You could leave your loved one a note on the day with those three little words scrawled on it. If you want to be cute, you could quote yourself and the date that it was said as something of a remembrance.
Some other couples may want something a little more concrete for the remembrance of their firstI love yous. There are all sorts of different choices, based on your personal feelings and what you believe would best represent that moment for you and your partner. You can get something to hang on your wall or put up on your mantelpiece where it will probably be thought of every time you glance at it, as an example. Of course, you might also find something proper regarding the place where the words were spoken first, and get something reminiscent of that place - at a duck pond, a drive in theater, or even in a cafe.
