How to Administer Induced Abortion

Induced abortions usually happen just because a woman has been identified as having some kind of medical condition that threatens the life of the fetus and the mother. This sort of pregnancy termination arises during the second or third trimesters so it demands in-hospital preparation, treatment, and follow-up after the procedure is completely.

The particular abortion process is first triggered by the administration of specific drugs to trigger the body into starting labor. As the mothers actually sets out to move labor along, the body works to deliver the fetus early. So that the process doesnt become complicated, the mothers cervix is artificially opened to allow the induction to happen.

The delivery of the drugs can take place in three other ways depending on how the hospital determines to actually provide the induction. The first method entails an injection into the fetal amniotic sac. This mixture will include digoxin, potassium chloride or plain salt water. All three cause the body to begin removing the amniotic sac from the womb.

The second method uses drug applications into the vaginal channel which then trigger passage through the cervix once it changes due to the contractions.

The third method uses an intravenous introduction of drugs to trigger the labor process and related contractions. Pitocin, also known as Oxytocin, are the most frequently used chemicals to start the process. These are the same drugs accustomed to induce labor in the hospital for planned pregnancies at full term.

Other drugs could be mixed in at the time to control pain as well bleeding that may also take place. The entire process is administered and handled by a trained doctor, and never handled by any lower level healthcare under a legal procedure. This is to circumvent uncertainty in the future.

In the event the procedure is carried out, the patient is moved to an observation area for the immediate care and any emergency response needed caused by reaction problems. The mothers body may immediately begin adjusted back to a normal state of no longer being pregnant. In the next two to three weeks this could certainly include vaginal bleeding or spotting that will need to be responded to if severe or continuous. The patient also will be given antibiotics in the first week so as to prevent any infection from the procedure that may occur. What cant be prevented with medical treatment is the emotional reaction that occurs in a patient from fetal loss and the physical separation.

Author Resource:- Again, when submitting to an induced abortion, a basic abortion clinic will not be sufficient. The process requires the facilities and team response available in a hospital in case uncertainty will arise. Whether in North Carolina or California, the medical procedure and treatment tend to be similar, and always follow The American Medical Association standards.
