Most of us are used to the conventional fax machine in the office so online faxing is a relatively new concept to many of us. This new modern way of sending faxes is something entirely different in that it is totally paperless faxing. Nor do you really need a traditional faxing machine since everything is handled through your email system and the web.

But just how do you fax documents online?

Basically, your faxes are sent as email attachments to your contacts. Your faxes have to be converted to a PDF or TIFF file and attached to your email, although there are many more file formats which you can use to send your faxes. In order to use online faxing, you have to first sign up to an Internet or online fax service provider who will act on your behalf to do all your faxing.

These services are relatively cheap, with the average rate around $8 to $10 a month, but there are even cheaper services so it pays to shop around. Once you have signed up, you're given a local or toll-free fax number and an online account. You can log into your account to check your faxes and you can also send your faxes from here. Plus, there are many good quality providers from which you can choose and they are less expensive than traditional methods. In addition, many of these providers have corporate plans which are completely scalable for any business or company. Nor should you rule out special corporate rates if your volumes are high.

Keep in mind, there are many ways to send your fax documents online. Some providers give you a desktop application which you can download to your desktop and use to send your faxes. Most providers also let you send faxes directly through your email system, but you should check with your individual provider to find out the exact procedure for doing this process, as they can differ slightly. Remember, as long as you're connected to the Internet, you should have no problem logging into your own account or interface to carry out your business.

The great thing about using an online faxing service, you can send and receive your faxes from anywhere and at any time. Any mobile device such as a cell phone, netbook, laptop... can be used as your faxing machine as long as it is connected to the web. This gives you great freedom since you can operate your business from just about anywhere on the planet.

Many users of this new way of faxing will gladly point out other benefits of online faxing. Start-up costs are next to nil because you don't have to buy a fax machine or install a separate phone fax line. You don't have the ongoing costs of inks, toners and papers. Plus, it is very convenient, faxing documents online is as easy as sending an email and everyone knows how to do that.

So the next time you want to fax documents online, try this new modern way of faxing. One that uses your email system and your web connection to send and receive all your faxes. It is cheaper, easier and much more convenient than the conventional way of faxing. Try it and see for yourself.
