Selling and buying goods, over the years, be it for luxury or necessity has transpired into a whole new dimension. Where else could we attribute it to but the upheaval of technology? The traditional way of buying and selling transactions conducted at a store has been added a new one - buying or selling through the internet through online auction sites.
An auction process, where goods are sold to or bought by highest bidders, is relatively old to us. Way back during the times of African slave trade, enslaved Africans, who were in shackles or bounded with ropes on the neck like animals, were auctioned at flea markets. The individual who could pay the most or the highest bidder gets the slave. Eventually, after the abolition of slavery, goods, services, or any property became the subject of any auction process. With the present various social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and numerous search engines, websites among others, auction trade could take place just anywhere else other than the traditional way of having it at shops and public bidding arenas among others.

However, to promote a business that has the best media coverage, advantage, and global attention, where could be the best avenue but the internet? Big online auction sites such as eBay started it with a majority believing it as the most absurd way of selling one of the most useless items, but look where the geniuses behind it are now. Today, as of the first quarter of 2011, eBays asset is at the tune of $23 billion for such a short lifespan of a business.
The question is with auction sites, 'Are the goods auctioned for real?' of course, no matter how weird they are, exist and are for real. Some would vary from as absurd as auctioning misbehaving and old pets to broken glass pieces, but such are totally ignored that sometimes become source of funny and sometimes ridiculous arguments. Sometimes, even the most invaluable become as valuable as houses, cars, and jewelries. However, the question boils down to whoever is willing to pay for such ridiculous items.
Even if it costs thousands of dollars just to pay for seemingly insignificant or unusual objects , sometimes there are men and women who are really dead serious in honoring biddings. Thousands of people who are equally willing to pay a certain fee to have their goods auctioned and all these may be due to the likelihood of a one-of-a-kind chance at generating thousands of dollars for someone who is willing to pay for a nice kind of laugh.
