Schools

The village contains two primary schools and one high school, the latter of which was recently renamed the Mountfitchet Mathematics and Computing College.

Castles

Stansted Mountfitchet is believed to have been fortified originally in the Iron Age, and subsequently by the Romans and Vikings. Stansted Mountfitchet possesses beautiful castles. The Norman Castle is believed to have been constructed during 1066.

The Mountfitchet Castle is a unique time capsule and stands majestically overlooking the Stort Valley. The original site of Mountfitchet Castle has a long and impressive history. This world-famous historically accurate reconstructed castle enables the visitor to travel back in time to 1066 Norman England. Explore the Castle and roam through the Norman Village hidden behind the castle walls, wander in and out of the many houses and view the scenes, smell the log fires burning and experience the ambiance of an ancient bygone lifestyle - a living history, hands-on and interactive experience.

Hotels and Restaurants

Hotels such as DeSalis, just 2 miles away from Stansted airport provides good variety in taste, reasonable budget with impressive restaurants and rooms. DeSalis also provides traveling facilities. DeSalis is an ideal place for a family holiday or to have a quick break down from work, so you can expect a fresh start to your morning here.

Museums

The village also boasts the House on the Hill Toy Museum, which is the largest toy museum in Europe. Located next to the castle, the museum opened in 1991 and holds over 80,000 toys which are mostly from the 1950’s to the 1980’s.

A working windmill built in 1787 is in the village, and is open to the public once a month.

A large number of homes are being built in a new development to the southeast side of the village, at the site of the former Rochford Nurseries in Forest Hall Road.

Author Resource:- DeSalis Restaurant also serves authentic Indian, Italian and English food. The DeSalis hotel was recommended by readers of the national newspaper, The Daily mail in November 2008 under the category best hotels in Stansted.

One more place is the art gallery and museum at The Herbert, you can find the creative media studios and an arts information and history centre.
