A new puppy in the home excites everyone especially children but make sure you got the puppy for a good reason and not just on a spur of the moment feeling. The common saying often revolved around dogs are for life simply not for Christmas. A puppy can bring lots of happy memories and times but they have a lot of training and work involved to, they are not all fun and no work!
Not only does a puppy's temperament depend on how it was reared but also by what breed of dog it is. All guard type of dogs like German Shepherds, Rottweilers, bull dogs and boxers are very loving and protective type dogs. Border and Bearded collies are natural herding dogs with tons of energy so the are great dogs for a farm (You should realize that their rural upbringing might make them skittish around big city noises and structures). Labradors and Pointers are traditionally hunting dogs and have good friendly personalities. These are simply guidelines for dogs, however, so keep in mind that like people, each dog has his or her own unique personality.

Dependent on the amount of time and attention invested, puppy dog training is achievable. When training your dog just a few minutes in different sessions is all that is needed. Once you have brought your new puppy home, you should immediately start training him in obedience with simple commands like sit, stay, and fetch. When your puppy starts to get older, you will enjoy teaching it commands like rolling over and playing dead. A young puppy is nothing more than a blank slate, so it will be very easy to train him or her to be obedient at an early age. The training a dog receives will stick with them and be a part of who they are, but training is not permanent and you should get into the routine of budgeting time daily to keep training them.
There are good reasons to train a puppy early. He will use your home as a toilet, for example, and your furniture may suffer with holes from his digging and biting. Puppies are not born knowing the difference between right and wrong, so you must teach them what you expect of them.
Many handlers experienced or in-experienced are turning towards training products and aids but training can be done without these methods, just a bit of good old hard work! Training a puppy takes months of patient work, make sure you do a few minutes everyday to reinforce what the dog has learned and to make sure it does not forget.
