Does your dog embarrass you by jumping on guests? Are you worried why other people's dogs run to them while your dog runs away? Quite simply, have you considered taking your dog to a professional for obedience classes or training him yourself? It is simple, effective and very fun to do if you have the right attitude and patience.

The basic dog training commands that you'll learn are sit, stay and come. These particular training commands are very beneficial for your dog's life. When you go out for a walk with your dog, you want others to see this dog on his best behavior! You can develop the right dog obedience training in only a few weeks with the right dedication.

There are a lot of obedience classes available. So if you can't teach your dog by yourself there is plenty support at the class, there are also other dogs there. Not only are you training your dog you are socializing him to which of course is the next step after sit, stay and come. Dogs are sorts of similar to children to some degree, except they have lots of fur, they need to understand what is right and wrong.

In my experience, few things motivate a dog more to listen to you than knowing that this means that a treat is in store if he does what you ask him to. Raising your voice at your dog is pointless, because he will not understand you and will simply become afraid of you. It is much better for an owner and dog to have a happy and functional relationship.

When teaching your dog obedience try and teach him away from distractions like his toys, take him to an empty field or park where there aren't any people, only you and him. Tell him firmly but nicely that you want him to sit, then take your hand and place it on his back and gently guide his bottom down, when it is down say sit and tell him he's a good boy then award him with a treat. Repetition reinforced with a reward for positive behavior will help him realize what you mean.

It may be another to get him to stay, you may require another person.

Make an attempt to make him sit (once he has understood) and be sure to have a friend nearby to hold on to him securely. Firmly tell him to stay, while you slowly back away (In future when you hold up your hand he should realize that he has to stay without your shouting at him to stay) then give it a couple of seconds and allow your buddy to release him, when he approaches you ensure you command him to sit and let him know that he is very smart!
