How To Deal With Society When Suffering Hair Loss?

Perhaps one of the biggest problems of hair loss is not the hair loss alone: it is other people. Often, a bald person is ‘comforted’ by friends and family that over emphasize that hair is not that grand. For people with a full head of hair, and do not witness the daily recession of a hairline that’s been nurtured for several decades, it might appear that baldness is nothing.

Hair is Important for You

No matter how many comforting words you might hear from the people around you, you may feel that hair loss is the worst thing that had happened to you. Again, people who aren’t in your position don’t know what it’s like to lose your crowning glory. They don’t know the shame you feel when you appear comical because your hair is no longer congruent.

This is why people go to great lengths to make sure that their hair will grow back in the end. Most bald people don’t really look for cures that would make it appear that they have their hair when they were in their twenties.

Often, people just settle for the minimum: a full head of hair, even if the head of hair is a bit thin. People with constrained budgets don’t have a better time of it. Many of these folks settle for substandard treatments that often mutilate their hair lines more than improve it.

Hair and Self Esteem

Let’s face it: hair is one of many ways that people can pre judge you even before they get to know you. This is why Hollywood actors and actresses spend so much time with their hair. And this is also why you, along with millions of other people around the world spend their time taking care of their hair.

To be level headed about the issue, hair loss is not really a threat to your life. You won’t die, nor will you be seriously ill. However, you might experience some ridicule when all your hair falls out. And having people laughing behind your back has never been healthy for self esteem.

Sometimes, the opposite sex might have false conceptions of you as well. Having little or no hair sometimes translates to images of impotency, or sexual retardation. You wouldn’t want that, would you?

Solving Hair Problems

Some people prefer to be cavalier about the whole thing, thinking that society is now more open and liberal about these things. Sure, there are some open minded individuals that pay no attention to cosmetic appearances. But the majority of the world still does.

The first step in solving any problem is acceptance, not denial. If your hair is falling out and isn’t showing any signs of stopping, it’s time to acknowledge that you are suffering from hair loss.

The next step is getting help. Go to your general practitioner and have your doctor look at your scalp closely through a scalp examination. More likely than not, your doctor would be able to create some guidelines for you to halt or at least slow down the ravages of hair loss. You may also ask your doctors for a prescription: any prescription that would be of help to your present condition.
