When dealing with a panic attack, it helps to know some techniques or methods that can help you to overcome your attack and relieve your anxiety no matter how severe the attack is. Here are 5 simple tips that you can use to deal with your next attack...

The first thing you should do when experiencing a panic attack is to stop and breathe. While this method sounds quite simple, it is amazing how many people forget to truly implement it. Make your breaths conscious, long, and deep. Through the nose is best, as it has a calming effect on your body. This type of breathing will slow your heart rate and ease any feelings of anxiety. This can be a quick and effective method for dealing with any panic attack.

Another useful technique to help deal with a panic attack is meditation. This method has to be learned to get the full benefits, but even just relaxing with your eyes closed and focussing on something positive for 10 minutes or so can be rewarding. Another technique that falls under the meditation tag is yoga. Regular yoga classes can be very beneficial in dealing with panic attacks.

Where relaxation and meditation methods do not prove to be effective, perhaps because they are just too difficult to implement for some people, then medication could be considered. In such a case you need to consult with your doctor where you can discuss and consider the advantages and disadvantages of different medications for your particular situation. There is no doubt that many sufferers have found that the medication route has helped them deal with their panic attacks and their general anxiety.

In conjunction with medications, sometimes therapies are effective in treating reoccurring panic attacks. There are several different methods of therapy available, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Exposure Therapy. Therapy involves visits to a trained specialist, and usually occurs on an on-going basis, for several months. Discuss therapy sessions with your physician if your panic attacks are severe, or you are not effectively dealing with them on your own.

An important issue in recurring panic attacks is stress. This is known to be a key factor in triggering attacks. So you have to do all that you can to lower the stress in your life. There are many factors in people's lives that cause high levels of stress. You are best placed to know the factors in your life that are stressing you out. You have to deal with them. Of course you can use stress-reducing exercises to help. And things like yoga classes can help too. The bottom line is that you need to reduce stress in order to effectively deal with panic attacks.

To deal with a panic attack effectively you need to understand its triggers and take the necessary steps to reduce the impact of its symptoms. You have now learned several methods and techniques that, if used correctly, will help you to overcome your panic attacks, or, at the very least, reduce their severity and frequency.
