Three Must Visit Attractions in Richmond

Virginia is one of the most fascinating states of United Nations as it assures you about fun activities, concerts and tours during your tour to this magnificent place. Richmond City, the capital of the state of Virginia and it is considered as the best historic cities of the state. This cosmopolitan city exhibits perfect amalgamation of historic charm and excitement of contemporary and modern technology. The city of Richmond has become an important center for business, entertainment, education and tourist spot for local as well as for the visitors from all round the globe.

Initially during sixteenth century, the region was inhabited by Powhatan tribe. Considering region's natural beauty and ideal setting, the tribe had one of their capitals here at Powhatan. The very first permanent English speaking settlement took place in the year 1607 in the region.

William Byrd I was granted land around James River that had become Richmond and he built a fort on the site. But later in the year 1704, William Byrd II acquired his father's land and founded the town of Richmond. He then gave the task to Major William Mayo to lay out the original town grid. Byrd named the city of Richmond by inspiring from an English town near London. The town of Richmond was incorporated in the year 1742.

The city of Richmond offers some of the most popular and most visited attractions within city and nearby areas. Some not to miss attractions of the city include the Virginia State Capital, exciting Canal Walk along with some most prominent historically significant landmarks such as Arthur Ashe Statue, White House of the Confederacy, Egyptian Building and several other attractions to add to the list.

Virginia State Capital is considered as an important landmark of the city. It was designed by world renowned Thomas Jefferson. This marvelous building was inspired from a Roman temple. The construction of the building was completed in the year 1788 and recognized as the oldest structure that has been in continuous use in the nation. The major attraction of the building is the central hall that features a statue of George Washington.

White House of Confederacy and Museum is situated at the former Confederate States of America. It also houses the best and the world's most fascinating collection of Confederate memorabilia with photographs and documents. The aim of the museum is to educate the visitors about the significant history of the city.

Other highlight of the city include the sculpture of Jefferson Davis and Stonewall Jackson with the uniforms and weapons used by Confederate military, E.B.D. Julio's painting and many more things. It also accommodates a library that houses manuscripts, maps and books.

The building has now become a National Historic Landmark and meant to preserve the grandeur of wartime.
Another thing to do during your stay in the city includes the Canal Walk. This is a great scenic walk that takes place around the Richmond waterfront. This is a great trail for walking and jogging that stretches up to 1.25 miles. The area around the walk is full of historic plaques and markers that include Newport Cross, signpost etc.
