Christ the Redeemer rests on the tip of Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park ignoring the Brazilian Capital, Rio de Janeiro. The statue of Jesus Christ is situated at the peak of 700m of the Corcovado Mountain. This statue of Jesus Christ, embracing arms as if it is embracing all humanity is the most prominent landmark in Brazil. A symbol of Christianity, the figurine has become an image for Rio and Brazil. The 38m tall statue, the tallest in the world is made of metal, unbreakable material and soapstone weighs 635 tones. Styled by Brazilian builder Heitor de Silva Costa and created by French sculptor Paul Landowski, it is one of the world's best known structures. It took five years to create and inaugurated on October 12, 1931. It is now renowned as the new Seven Wonders of the World.
In the era of 1850's, a catholic priest, Pedro Maria Boss, adviced to build a statue of Jesus Christ on the top of the Corcovado Mountain. The monetary help was requested from the Princess of Isabel to make a huge statue of Lord Jesus Christ which was considered as a holy icon and is freshly accepted as a piece of recent seven wonders of the world. Initially this idea was ignored and nobody thought to build this great sacred monument, but later on in 1921, the figurine was finally created by the Catholic Circle of Rio, when the actual need and offer for a huge landmark and a religious monument was seriously regarded.

Then was the problem of finances, as to who will fund for this great historical and religious sculpture and to resolve this difficulty as well to gain a great publicity a group of citizens organized an event for about seven days by which a large sum of donation was collected mostly from the Brazilian Catholics. The people were even requested to sign if they were in support of creating the large statue of Jesus. Along with funds and signatures, there were suggestions flooding in for the style of the statue of Jesus Christ, some suggested that there must be a cross of Christ along with Jesus Christ's statuette, others had a notion to build an idol of Jesus holing the earth in his secure hands, all the suggestions were keenly studied on, but lastly an idol of Jesus Christ with open arms was decided. With all the hardships the figurine was ultimately built on the peak of 700m high Corcovado Mountain and recently is saluted as one of the seven wonders of the world.
