All dogs, no matter what breed or age, will need some form of toys because just as humans get bored easily so do dogs. Although we may think that dog toys are not that important to your dogs they are a major part of their lives. Dog toys are a great way to encourage positive play and will bring you closer with your dog. Toys are great to stop your dog from being bored when you are not in the house and hopefully will stop them being destructive.

It is an idea to have several different toys for your dog; this will stop them being bored as they are able to select different toys. A bored dog is very dangerous as they will often find something else to chew, which usually means your furniture. If you can try to encourage your dog to play with their toys then they will not notice that you are away from the house. There are several different styles of dog toys and which ones you choose for your dog will depend on your taste and budget.

There are several motivational toys available and some that you can fill with treats and your dog has to try to empty the toy to retrieve them; these are good for dogs that bore easily. Hard wearing toys are advisable or you will end up spending a fortune on toys if your dog keeps destroying them. And toys which make a noise always seem like a good idea until your dog squeaks them continuously. You can give your dog stuffed animals but some destructive dogs will simply destroy them, and if you have children then their toys might be next.

Tug toys are great and ideal for dogs that want to play with you all of the time as are balls and Frisbees; these are ideal ways for you to be active and play with your dog at the same time. Choosing a toy that will suit your dog can sometimes be decided on their breed and size, buying a huge ball for a very small dog will be pointless. You should also only ever give your dog proper dog toys as these are safe for animals. Dog toys will not splinter and they are non toxic, if you think that any element of your new toy is unsafe then cut off string or tags to ensure your dog is safe.

You and your dog will benefit from you purchasing dog toys; it will mean that you get up and active while playing with your dog. When you are not in the house you know that your dog will be chewing its toy and not your furniture or possessions. By providing your dog with plenty of toys of all different types you are displaying good dog care. Your dog will appreciate the love shown and will learn that good behavior with the toys will provide rewards. Dogs respond well to a reward system and if they see that they will get toys if they leave other items alone then they will strive to do this.
