Travel Nursing is Ideal For People Who Like Change

Travel nursing is one area of medical care that has a limited workforce. Most people do not like to move from one location to another at the drop of a dime and therefore, a limited amount of nurses are available for traveling.

This type of nursing is a good idea for someone who does not have a family at home waiting for them to return each night. It is also ideal for someone who does not want to be permanently tied down to any specific location.

Job Description

A travel nursing job description is the same as a full-time nurse. A travel nurse simply means that they will be sent from one hospital to another in order to fill a nursing shortage.

Sometimes this means working during a strike when the regular nurses are not reporting to work as they should. In this case, a travel nurse will be sent to fill in until an agreement is entered between the hospital and the nurses. Once an agreement has been made, the travel nurse will be sent to another location.

Compensation

Travel nursing is good for someone who wants to get out and experience the world while working at the same time. Going from one location to another is what travel nurses like, especially since they are getting paid to travel. A travel nurse will make more money than a registered nurse who works full-time because a travel nurse has more experience due to their wide variety of skills.

Travel Expenses

Most of these nurses have to pay for hotels or extended-stay motels as well as their mode of transportation whether they are driving a car or flying by airplane. The assignment they are given will determine what method of transportation they are going to use.

For example, if nurses need to be in one area on Monday and across the country on Wednesday, they will not be able to drive from one location to another in that short amount of time. Therefore, the travel nursing staff will be required to fly.

Other Expenses

The travel nursing staff will also be responsible for purchasing their own nursing scrubs. These scrubs, or uniforms, will vary depending on the hospital or doctor's office they are assigned to. In some hospitals, a nurse will be able to wear any type of scrub uniform they want while in others, they are only allowed to wear a white uniform with white shoes.

All of these expenses will come from their pocket. However, there are some companies that reimburse their nurses for a portion of their uniform expenses. This all depends on the company's policy and the employment contract they offer each nurse.

Because this is a demanding profession, the ideal candidate for travel nursing is someone who likes to visit different locations and does not have a family who needs them on a daily basis. If these points describe you and you are a registered nurse, then you may want to look into this type of profession and what benefits you can receive.
