Known as the third-largest city in the state of Texas, the city of Dallas is currently the home of around 1.2 million people. Its residents make up an average median age of 32 years; 40.1% of them are married while 10.8% are divorced. 81.8% of the residents have health plans and are entitled to health care provided by the city’s 265 physicians.
Dallas is divided into 10 “neighborhoods,” most notable of which are the Downtown, (where most of the main business activities in the city are conducted) Oak Cliff, (Dallas’ older, established neighborhood where many older houses in the city can be found) East Dallas (considered the more affluent part of the city) and North Dallas. (where a sizeable Koreatown and the old Dallas-Love Field Airport are located)

Dallas enjoys a more humid subtropical climate, averaging temperatures yearly between 57-77°F. (14-25°C) Residents get to enjoy 214 sunny days, as well as the mild winters when there’s no little or no snow. The city though is prone to flooding and tornadoes though, with rain falling at an average of 37.1 inches.
The city’s economy has long been based on industries like banking, commerce, energy, transporation, and telecommunications. With companies like Exxon Mobil, American Airlines, 7-Eleven, and, soon, AT&T headquartered in the city, there are a lot of opportunities available. Dallas citizens enjoy a $54,109 annual median family income. At the same time, they are subject to the state’s 8.25% sales tax. Unemployment at 4.10% is slightly lower than the US average, and it’s good to note that the job growth for the past 7 years has been positive at 9.03%. With a cost of living index of 92.94, Dallas is one of the cheapest places to live in the country. Crime rate in the city has been slightly high, though any comparison on such data is meaningless due to varying recording practices in each city.
Transportation in the city is served primarily by city’s numerous transit buses and rail systems; taxis are also available. The average commute time is at 22.9 minutes, slightly lower than the average commute time in the country.

Dallas serves as the home of sports teams like the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks, NHL’s Dallas Stars, and MLS’s FC Dallas. The city’s other sports teams: MLB’s Texas Rangers and the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys are headquartered just outside the city proper. Rugby, cricket, and auto racing have a following in the city as well.
The city hosts 136 libraries, 7 museums, and 132 movie theaters located in the city. Here you can also find the largest zoo in Texas (Dallas Zoo) as well as Fair Park, where one can find the Texas Star, North America’s largest ferris wheel. There’s also the Cotton Bowl football stadium that has long hosted the annual collegiate bowl named after it, and the JFK Memorial, marking the site where John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963. It also boasts of a rich architectural skyline with buildings like the JP Morgan Tower, Fountain Place and the Dallas City Hall decorating the cityscape. Swiss Avenue is another point of interest where one can find many historic homes of various classical architectural styles.
There is also a great number of dining choices in the city. The French Room and Bob’s Steak & Chop House are just a few of the 9,324 restaurants, as well as 333 bars serving Dallas’ appetite everyday.
