Vasectomy reversal surgery takes two to three hours to be completed and generally it is a same day check in check out procedure conducted as an outpatient surgery. Sometimes, a low volume of sperms is observed but their may be healthy enough to result in pregnancy. The doctor will advise you to wait for at least a year to see any real results from the surgery; however, he will follow up with you until pregnancy is achieved.

The skills sets, experience and the expertise of the micro surgeon who performs the surgery are vital elements in the success of the procedure. Discuss things such as the patency pregnancy rate of the clinic and the surgeon when you talk to him/her before the surgery. It is important to choose a surgeon who not only has the perquisite qualification that will include a one year course in fertility treatments apart from an MS but also he/she should be particularly adept at performing microsurgical procedures. It is completely acceptable to ask the doctor about his experience and even about some of the previous patients who have had the surgery done from the doctor. Make it a point to talk to some of these people so you can get a fair idea about what to expect and your chances of getting pregnant after the procedure. However, it is also important to be advised that each patient and case is different but patients who decide to go in for the reversal procedure within a year r three of the vasectomy stand a higher chance of regaining their fertility than men who wait for a decade or more.
The clinic in which you get the procedure done should also be checked out thoroughly; it should have the necessary support system such as an Andrology lab, a full time nursing and support staff, accredited microsurgical suites and a Cryobank to freeze the sperm. A clinic that has all the necessary back up with present the perfect environment for the patient as well as the doctor and higher success rate.
You may also want to ask your doctor about any surgeries that he may have conducted on patients who had already been through a reversal procedure but had failed to get pregnant. You will be entrusting your life in the hands of your doctor, so he /she should be friendly, trustworthy and sensitive to your problems. If you feel that you doctor is unwilling to answer your questions, seek out another professional.
