How Important is Your Child's Room?

Your child is learning all the time – and never more so than when they are babies. We all have heard about the fact that a baby's brain is like a sponge, constantly soaking up new information and that this is a gift we lose as we age. However, we are actually as likely to learn new things when we are older as we are when we are children if we focus on the information in the right way – it is merely the way we react to new information that changes.

Therefore, we see different things in the stimulus around us than our child does and they will be far less discriminative about how they use and store new information. They also have far more skills to learn than an adult will and therefore everything from the words they hear spoken around them to the music that is played will help their brains to develop in certain ways. Therefore, the room you create will play a very intricate part in how they develop mentally.

Choosing everything from the right baby mobiles and cot toys to the right colours for the walls of their room will have a marked impact on their development. Whilst to us there might not be any difference between one set of cot toys and another, to a baby there could be a huge one. Therefore, it is worth putting your own views on colour schemes and aesthetics aside when decorating and populating your young child's room and instead opt for baby mobiles and music boxes that have been proven to offer positive effects.

Your child's room should be somewhere they can be safe and comfortable, but also somewhere that they can learn a great deal right from their earliest days – days which may be far more important to their growth than you might realise.
