There are many slugs that don't harm the humans, but a few species do affect our garden and are called garden slugs. These are the type of slugs that you need to be wary of because they truly are a destructive force to your plants. These slugs use up plants more quickly than plant growth and will actually kill rather large plants such as shrubs and small trees. The sluggish moving creatures may also be a menace to farming, chowing down on fresh fruits, vegetables, and different kinds of crops that they can get their slimy bodies on. So how do we stop these slugs from destroying our beloved garden plants? Here are a few ways to get relief from these annoying garden slugs.
Hand Picking
Hand picking is a basic method in getting rid of slugs. It may not be the simplest of procedures however, since it will involve searching for the slimy insects in the corners of your garden and using your bear hands to take them on the floor. It is necessary to wear gloves before you hand pick them as the garden slugs are covered by the irritating slime all over the body. You can also use a sharp stick and only impale the insect once you find it. Then put in a container and pile the corpses, after which you can either burry it in the ground or throw it away. This method is cheap and can be very fun.

Slug Traps
Slugs aren't evasive creatures. They are mindless and slow moving insects. It is therefore very effective to use traps in getting rid of these insects. You can try digging a hole in the ground and place a can or another open carrier flattened in the soil surface. Fill the empty can with soap solution or any other solution that are deadly to insects. Once the slug falls in this container, it will drown easily.
Pellet Baits
Iron Phosphate pellets are effective baits that may immediately get rid of the slug after 6 days of intake. You can purchase it easily from any garden hardware or insect control store. You just spread them around your garden and wait for the bait do its damage.
These are three most effective ways to get rid of garden slugs. It is necessary you have thorough knowledge on the actual slugs that causes damage to your gardens foliage so that you can focus on the right pests you need to destroy. You can notice them after rainfall or during moist and humid weather conditions. Be ready to lay out traps and pellet baits when in this weather condition. You could also try cleaning the garden by moving away dead logs and large rocks which work as sleeping places for slugs and other dangerous pests in your garden.
