Creating Flyers to Promote an Event

You are organizing a one-day event in your community or city and you need to tell people about it. It could be a flea market sale, a rummage sale to benefit your local church, a bake sale for the funding of your child's club, or the talk of a special guest speaker at the local auditorium. You need to promote your event because the number of people who will attend will determine the success of the event. But you do not have a lot of budget for advertising, as this is only a one-day local event.

If such is the case, the cheapest way to go would be to resort to poster and flyer printing. The posters and flyers can augment each other's incapacities and would work well together in promoting your event to the community without your having to shell out so much their production.

Same layout. There is not much work to be done when producing posters and flyers because they could come in the same layout, especially if you are going to use ¼ or ½ of a bond paper size for the flyers. You can just reduce the image to fit the small paper.

Efficient Size. These two advertising materials could come in efficient sizes that will maximize the cut sizes of the paper material. That way, they cost less. Printed materials that have special sizes usually have a lot of wastage in paper, hence they can get expensive. Your posters can be sized at 11" x 17" while the flyers could be ¼ or 1/8 of that size. One cut size of paper can make about six posters and you can just multiply the number of cuts for the flyers.

Same Day Distribution. Since the poster size is just small, the person you will hire to distribute the flyers can also carry the posters with him. They can install the posters in between the flyer distribution. Aside from giving away flyers to passers-by, you can also leave flyers at the stores that allowed you to put up posters. Their customers can pick up the flyers so that they can read more information.

Small one-day events should be promoted so that people will know about them. Advertising is necessary for its success. However, the advertising could be not so expensive so that you will not incur so much operational costs. TV announcement and print ads could be way too expensive per spot and you would need frequency for people to remember your announcement. You can start putting up your posters and give away flyers one month before the event. But you can also give flyers out again one week and two days before the event date so that people will be reminded about it.

Flyers and posters are both effective and affordable ways to promote one-day events. The poster and flyer printing could be done by the same printer so that you can get bulk discounts from your order. You can reinforce your publicity efforts with press releases, as these are just usually offered for free by media outlets. Take advantage of this free service by the media, that way you do not have to spend so much. Doing all these will ensure that your event will get enough media mileage that is integral for its success.
