At a time where it can be difficult to find full time CAD jobs, many people are turning to temporary positions instead. There are unique advantages and disadvantages to pursuing temporary CAD jobs that need to be considered in order to make the right choice to fit your needs. Fortunately, there are some simple tips that you can use to make sure that you make a choice that you will be happy with.

1. Location, Location, Location

One of the first things that you need to consider is if you are willing relocate and how far you are willing to go. There are temporary jobs across the country and moving may be requirement. Some temporary positions allow for telecommuting, however this is often considered an exception more than the norm. Additionally, some positions provide a moving allowance or housing allowance while others do not. You should also consider any additional expenses that you may face such as a fee for breaking a lease, or have to make a mortgage payment on your home as well as an apartment payment somewhere closer to where you work. Some people even stay at hotels through week and go home on the weekend. Everyones situation is different, however it is important that the first thing you do is consider how far you willing travel or move in order to land temporary CAD jobs.

2. Opening Doors – Closing Doors

Going into temporary CAD jobs, you should be able to get a decent idea whether or not it could turn into a permanent, full-time opportunity. It is important to keep an eye for temporary positions that could become permanent because it could affect whether or not it is the right fit for you. However, it is also important to keep in mind that if you do not want to accept a permanent position, you have the option to leave once your contract is up. This also means that you miss out on an opportunity for a permanent position elsewhere. Many temporary jobs come with contracts that clearly define how long you will be working with a company If you are searching for a permanent place, then you may miss out on some opportunities while working a temporary position.

3. Build Your Resume

Some people view temporary CAD jobs as an excellent opportunity to build their resume and diversify their skill set. While there are many resume-building advantages to temporary opportunities, there are drawbacks that should be considered as well. If you are extremely experienced or are used to working more management-style positions, then taking a temporary position below that level may give people the impression that you were not a good manager. This is especially true if you work several lower level temporary positions between permanent positions.

There are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration when choosing whether or not temporary CAD jobs are right for you. However, by following these 3 tips, you will be able to make a decision that not only creates short term success but long term happiness.
