If you and your family have decided to get a dog as a pet, there are few things you need to be aware of to make sure that your dog has a healthy and happy life living in your home. There are some responsibilities that you have taken seriously so you don't end up hurting your dog. Not all of these responsibilities have to be bad or take up a lot of time but some basic grooming suggestions will come in handy if you are a new dog owner or just want to make sure you do not miss some of the simple things that need to be done. Here are just a few things you can do to make sure your dog has the basic care it needs and deserves while the dog is living in your house.

One thing that you have to do to maintain basic care for your dog is to clip your dog's nails so they do not get too long and end up hurting your dog's feet. This can be done by getting a simple dog grooming kit from your local pet store. It comes with nail clippers and a file so that you can clip your dog's nails at home. This will save you some money because you do not have to bring your dog to the veterinarian to have this simple procedure done. By maintaining the dog's nails, you can make sure that your dog is able to walk right. You would definitely see a difference if something was bothering his feet.

The next thing you can do is to give your dog a bath. If you give your dog a bath, you will make your dog's coat shiny and clean so that no diseases or any other organisms can make your dog sick. Even though you give your dog a bath during the summer months, it does not mean that your dog will not get sick. There are trouble areas that you need to keep clean on your dog. You need to wash your dog's face, around the eyes and around the ears very well making sure nothing gets in them. This is one of the ways that dogs get sick.

Another thing you have to make sure you do is to watch your dog's diet. Many dogs like to eat just about anything but some things can make them sick. By watching what your dog eats, you will be better determining whether your dog is going to get sick or not. In addition, if you are looking to maintain the health of your dog, you might want to pay attention to what is going into your dog's food. When you purchase dog food for your dog, look at the label to see what the manufacturers have put in. Some manufacturers of dog food like to put in extra antioxidants and good things that will keep your dog healthy and boost its immune system. This will also help ward off any sicknesses or diseases that might befall your dog.
