What's the perfect meeting table for your office?

Not enough thought goes into the purchase of office tables – we use and abuse them every day, and don't really pay much attention to the finer detail, especially when we have to buy them. However, if you're in the position of responsibility at work or in your own office where you have to purchase on behalf of the company, you'll need to take a look at certain factors that will result in the perfect office table for you.

Far too many people concentrate on how a meeting table looks. Although the finish is important (how durable it is, how easy to clean, and how it matches the rest of the décor in the room), it's largely the materials used rather than superficial details such as colour that you need to look at. Whether it's wooden or plastic, you'll need to choose one that has the correct functionality as well as looks.

Depending on cost, you can have different kinds of meeting tables to do different jobs. Or if you're on a budget, then something like castors or a folding table will make it serve more than one purpose in the business, or at least you'll be able to move it to have a second use in another room. Heavier, expensive meeting tables are designed to be left in place and used often – therefore they will be made from durable, less cost-effective materials, but will outlast many other tables.

A final consideration when picking the perfect meeting table is that it needs to conform to any health and safety guidelines that may be intertwined with its use. For example, if a meeting table splits up or folds to become part of a desk for a couple of people, you'll need to check that they are able to sit comfortably at it and use it for most of the day. If you bear all these factors in mind, you can get the perfect meeting table for you – and your office.
