What should you look for when choosing meeting furniture?

Buying a meeting room table requires more thought and planning that you may initially think. If you're purchasing a meeting room table for your company (or have been asked to buy one by your boss), then you need to consider the kind of life and use it will have in the business, as part of you making a choice between certain kinds of meeting table.

For example, you need to consider whether your meeting furniture will be permanently in place or not. If the room you intend to put it in has dual use – for example, a training room as well as a meeting room, then it's best that you get a meeting room table that has castors or folds up, so that you can immediately put the room back in whichever "mode" it's going to be used for. If you find that you constantly have to drag tables around (and some types of heavy lifting like this has serious health and safety implications), then portability should be a consideration.

Comfort should be the next factor you should think about when choosing a meeting room table. It really depends on how long a typical meeting in your company can be – if they are less than an hour or with most people standing or moving around as part of a brainstorm, for example - then the table isn't as large a consideration as a company who frequently holds all-day meetings, where comfort, room and ergonomics are a priority.

Finally, there are aesthetics to consider. It's all well and good if you're a hip, designer company and want a meeting table to match your company image, but the same applies if you want a traditional, refined image. It may be best to get advice from a manager before you go ahead and order a meeting table that may not reflect your company accurately.
