Having a Stationery Printing Business

We can be thankful to the internet because we have so many free stationery templates that are accessible with just one click of the mouse. That means that tech-savvy computer users also have the opportunity to print many nice and clever stationery designs at home. While you are enjoying the freedom of creativity as you print your own personalized stationery, has it ever occurred to you that you can actually start a stationery printing business in your own room and at the convenience of your own time?

If this is your first time to consider doing this venture, then maybe you will find the tips below helpful as you start your commercial printing business for personalized stationery.

1. Be creative in your designs. Needless to say, clients want unique designs that they have never seen before. You can use existing templates from the internet; rehash them a bit by changing colors and adding graphics, and adding your own text quotes to make them look fresh and unique. It is up to your creativity to spruce up and old design.

2. Offer unique services that your clients won't be able to get by themselves or from other suppliers. These may include intricate and customized designs and finishes, such as textured paper and envelopes, die-cutting, emboss, and gold stamping.

3. Look up the internet and from local suppliers about the different types of printing processes involved in stationery production. You can use letterpress printing, engraving, foil stamping, and calligraphy aside from inkjet and laser printing. All these services combined will give you a big edge over the competition.

4. You can create more unique designs if you have your own graphics design software. The most commonly used software are CorelDraw and Adobe Photoshop. These two programs allow you to make your own unique templates from scratch plus they give you a lot of options in tweaking existing templates from the internet so that they will look new.

For some background information, CorelDraw is a vector-based program that allows you to "draw" on the page (hence the name) with the use of shapes and curves. All these can be manipulated in every possible way to suit your design and your preference. On the other hand, Adobe Photoshop is a raster or pixel-based program. It is best used for the manipulation of pictures and images. You can then save your files as JPG format so that they do not take up so much space when you insert the image in another program.

You can also use those free programs that you can download from the internet. The most of common of these are software called the GIMP and Paint.

5. It would be good for you to have a commercial printer that can help you create and print your designs. This will also allow you to separate your work and business from your personal life. You can also lock this so that the area will be protected from your kids and pets. Both can bring a lot of damage to printed materials. Your work space should be a well-lighted area where you could also take pictures of your stationery in order to put in a catalog. If you can afford it, it would be good to invest in white light especially if you do not have adequate natural light coming inside the room. Stationery printing is not a difficult thing to do but you could really earn so much from it.
