Ice hockey looks somewhat violent in nature. From body checking opponents into sheets of Perspex to the weight of the puck and sticks themselves potentially connecting with delicate areas of your body, there seems plenty of opportunity for danger and in turn injury.

But is ice hockey really that dangerous? Ultimately, those worried about the chances of injury to themselves or their loved ones who might be talking up the sport, it is wise to remember that almost any sport has its fair share of danger and injury. For those worried about children, the chances for injury are even less as pucks will be travelling fairly slow and the mammoth amount of padding will ensure that they are as protected as possible.

A good ice hockey shop will have a wide range of products to help keep those playing ice hockey safe, and since pads are worn it is far less dangerous than sports such as rugby. Of course, there will still be dangers, but getting the right skates and pads from an ice hockey shop before you even start will ensure that you or your loved ones have the right protection for them and don't end up having to borrow equipment that is inferior or the wrong size for them.

Finding information on ice hockey is fairly easy. Your local team should have plenty of literature as will any UK skate shop and there will be even more to be found on websites about the specific league you are looking into. Whether you are looking into ice hockey as a bit of fun, a way to exercise or as a real potential competitive sport, just find the right UK skate shop, the right place to practice and the right protection and you should then have very little to worry about.
