The Last yet Vital Stages in Commercial Printing

We may read a magazine, get a free brochure from a countertop, or just throw away colored flyers that were inserted between the wiper and the windshield of our cards. We encounter these printed materials every day and take for granted how they came into existence. After all, it is not much use to you.

But what we do not know is that so many things go on in the commercial printing company before you actually see the printed material on paper. To give you a bird's eye view, here are the final stages that a commercial printer has to go through in order that they can release the printed material as specified by the client. These are very important stages to ensure the quality of their products.

1. Quality Checking. When the presses run in order to print a poster, a brochure, or a catalog, it is very critical that the printer or operator and the print production supervisor should check the quality of the running. Some of the things that they check are the quality of the printing impression, if the right image was transferred onto the paper, if the registration is exact, and whether the number of copies required by the client is produced. While you might think that printing is at the backend, it is actually the integral part of the frontend marketing because if you company produces bad prints, who would want to go to you and have their job done. So that is why two people work on the quality control for check and balance.

2. Binding and Finishing. When the presses have stopped running, more work is needed before the final products can be released. They are processed at the binding and finishing department of the printing press. Depending on the requirements of the clients, the order could be folded, laminated, stamped, or die-cut. If there are no further instructions, the materials are then trimmed so that they will have even edges. The trimming also makes sure that all the materials are of the same sizes. The print supervisor usually checks the quality here at this point because in most printing companies, only one person manages the printing as well as the finishing.

3. Packing. When all the materials have been printed and finished according to client specifications, these are then packed for delivery or pick up. These materials are wrapped and then tied together in small packages so that they can be easily handled. However, if the materials need to be shipped, they need to be packed carefully so that they will withstand shipping and handling. They should be boxed and wrapped in plastic all-around so that they are protected from water and moisture damage.

4. Invoice issuance. If it is a local client we are talking about, you have to send an invoice along with the delivery. It will tell the client how much they owe and when they are expected to pay. Your invoice should be official because that is where your client will base the addressee for their check payments. And it would not look good if your invoice is not official.

As a commercial printer, you need to make sure that your clients are happy with your work. You need to call them and ask them if they received the delivery and if they are satisfied with your work. That is part of your customer relations being a commercial printing company.
