Nowadays, the world is experiencing a quick technological and scientific progress proceeding towards the next technological era. Every day some new inventions are being made. Undoubtedly, all of them play an important role in the life of mankind, but probably the invention of magnet is considered one of the most considerable inventions of mankind. With the help of magnet people have simplified transportation and power and energy generation making it at the same time more productive.

What is a magnet?

In general, a magnet is a material or an object around which a magnetic field is created and attracts such ferromagnetic materials as iron. A magnet also attracts or repels other magnets. The first registered magnets were mentioned 2500 years ago in India, China and Greece. By the 12th and 13th centuries, magnets were widely used in many Asian and European countries in the form of magnetic compasses.

Magnets may have different shapes and sizes and may be used for home and industrial production. There are electromagnets and permanent magnets. Electromagnets include a coil wire that has the same physical processes as a magnet does when an electric current is passed through it. Permanent magnet is made from a magnetic material having a persistent magnetic field.

Nowadays, magnets are widely used in many different fields. Today, many activities including industrial or others, involve the use of magnets and greatly depend on them. So, the absence of magnets will be noticed at once. That's why it's completely correct to say that magnets are irreplaceable for the subsistence of the contemporary mankind.

So, what are the ways of the usage of magnets?
Well, magnets may be used for a number of intentions and have different important applications.
Magnets are widely used in floppy disks, cassettes and hard disks. Magnets, having an ability to attract numerous things, are manufactured in the image of thin films on which data may be stored or recorded.
Magnets are also used in industry. They are involved in such industrial equipment as sweepers, conveyors separators, pullers, and welding devices.
Magnets have found their application in magnetic therapy devices like knee magnets magnetic massager, magnetic waist belts, and magnetic mattresses, etc.
Credit, Debit and ATM cards have also magnetic strips on one side. It encodes the information about the person and his or her account and bank details.
Besides, magnets are used in speakers and microphones.
Electronics motors and generators also involve magnets.
An important field where magnets play an important role is the health sector. Hospitals have Magnetic Resonance Techniques (MRI) scanning different organs in the human body and are used in surgery.
Magnets are widely used in such household equipment as television, headphones, refrigerators, telephones, water pumps, etc.
Magnets serve for a great number of jewelry items including earrings, bracelets, pendants and necklaces.
The other items in which magnets are used include compasses, toys, fail-safe devices, tools, science projects, vinyl magnet sheets and many others.
