Financial Aid For Medical Assistants - 4 Scholarships You Can Seek

When taking up a program for medical assistant jobs you might need financial aid to assist you in completing the program of your choice. There are a number of scholarships available; some consider financial need, while others are based on academic performance. Also there are some scholarships that can be availed if you take up a program dedicated to a specialized field.
- Maxine Williams Scholarship: This scholarship is sponsored by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA). The scholarship is granted on the basis of financial need and academics. You must be already studying in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), and have minimum 3 GPA. Eligible students will receive $1,000, plus a membership in AAMA for one year. However you cannot apply directly, the director of the accredited program has to request for the required forms from AAMA.

- American Medical Technologists (AMT) Scholarships: This is a need-based scholarship given by AMT. To avail of this scholarship you should be taking a course that will culminate in a career in any of the disciplines that the AMT has certified. The award is only for covering the cost of tuition, and will not handed to the student, but sent directly to the institution as per your preference. Each year a total of five scholarships, of $500 each are granted. Remember, while applying you must show sufficient proof of financial requirement, to be considered.
- Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) Scholarships: If you are taking a program in ophthalmic training, then you can get a scholarship from JCAHPO. The amount of the scholarship is $500. To pursue this scholarship you will first have to apply to your school, and the school officials in turn will decide which applicants can apply further for the scholarship.
- Juliette A. Southard/ Oral B. Laboratories Scholarship: If you are looking to be a medical assistant in the dentistry field, then you can apply for this scholarship funded by the American Dental Assistants Association (ADAA). The basis for selection is on your academics and ability in dentistry. You will have to submit a letter to indicate your intention of pursuing a medical assisting career in the dental field. You must also be a member of ADAA. The maximum award amount in this scholarship is $750.
