Anyone who has TV aerials in Derby or who has made use of aerial repairs in Derby will no doubt have seen many award shows on their screens over the years recognising the achievements of heroes from around the UK and further afield.

Now, these individuals get the chance to be in the spotlight themselves. The local authority has started a search to find those who have worked hard to make a difference to their communities.

Specifically, Derbyshire County Council is seeking people who have raised money for good causes, worked as volunteers, helped to protect the environment in Derbyshire, aimed to make the county a safer place to live and work in, promoted closer, more caring communities or helped raise the profile of the area through achievements in fields such as music and sport.

Whether they have TV aerials in Derby, have made use of aerial repairs in Derby or not, individuals are being encouraged to contact the council with the details of anyone they would like to recommend. Nominations will be open until Friday August 19th.

Commenting on the initiative, leader of the local authority Andrew Lewer said: "Derbyshire is a great place to work, live and visit and part of that is thanks to our increasing army of volunteers. They make a huge impact and deserve our thanks for their hard work.

"We want you to tell us about truly exceptional people who put the needs of others first and make a difference to their communities by making that extra effort which makes them stand out."

A ceremony honouring those who prove successful in the awards will be held on October 17th at the Devonshire Dome in Buxton. Individuals, businesses, groups, charities and voluntary organisations will be among those in attendance. The awards are now in their fifth year of running.
