People who have benefited from aerial installations in Cheltenham and aerial repairs in Cheltenham may well get hours of entertainment from their television sets. After all, these days there are many fantastic shows on for people to watch.

However, they may also be keen to experience other forms of leisure pursuit too, meaning they may welcome the revamp of the town's Everyman Theatre.

First to tread the boards on the newly refurbished auditorium on September 23rd will be funny man Ken Dodd, WhatsOnStage.com reports.

In news that may be welcomed by those who have had aerial installations in Cheltenham and aerial repairs in Cheltenham, Ken will perform his one-man Laughter Show.

According to chief executive of the theatre Geoffrey Rowe the comedian is the perfect choice to get the venue started again. He remarked: "We needed a show to open the theatre with few technical demands, so that we can test the new facilities before the first full week of performances.

"So a comedian ... and who is most associated with old, lovely theatres and has played them all, several times? Ken Dodd of course - and what a comedian! Ken has been performing all around the UK for over 60 years and is probably the last of the traditional variety comics."

Mr Rowe went on to suggest that he cannot think of a better choice to re-open the Everyman. Indeed, as local people may well remember, the celebrity has played there on a number of occasions in the past.

Meanwhile, commenting on his love for the stage, Ken revealed he never gets tired of performing. Audiences love a good laugh, the 83-year-old pointed out.

Born in Liverpool in 1927, the comedian is also a singer songwriter and he is particularly well known for this trademark feather duster, or 'tickling stick'.
