Keeping Your Windows in Good Condition

Windows can grow to look old, dirty and even outdated quicker than you might think. It is therefore very wise to be proactive in trying to keep them in as good a condition as possible.

For older windows, it is often simply best to look at getting replacements put in as modern wooden sash windows are going to be far safer, more efficient and attractive than older windows. However, even if you choose to update your frontages to include double glazed sash windows, you are still going to want to make sure they stay looking their best for as long as possible.

Cleaning is obviously the first port of call. Regular cleaning will help keep the glass looking better for far longer in general, whilst ensuring that damage or wear doesn't go unnoticed. On top of this, excessive dirt can be damaging to paintwork too. However, the majority of cleaning will actually simply be a cosmetic thing and, whilst regular cleaning is undoubtedly extremely beneficial, there are other, more focussed ways to ensure your wooden sash windows stay in the best condition.

Regular checks are the primary way to make sure they stay in a good state. Every few months, a cursory check should highlight any issues and allow you to address them before they become major problems. Not only will you be able to address cosmetic issues, but also things such as the seals too. Should any repairs be needed, the sooner you make them, the better as letting issues fester could lead to them being either much more costly or simply impossible to repair.

If your windows are old, then updating them to double glazed sash windows will almost certainly be the most worthwhile move, but whether they are new or old, then checking seals and paintwork regularly could see them lasting far longer.
