Is Pet Insurance Worthwhile?

Every year, pet owners spend millions on their pets. Not each. But the fact that the pet industry is so large shows just how many people care for pets, and just how much we are willing to spend on our four legged friends.

Likewise, if you are able to feed your pet a very focussed pet diet and ensure they get plenty of exercise, you will also rarely need many things that certain policies will offer, whilst the things you may well need cover for might be glaringly absent.

However, there are still many people who don't choose to buy pet insurance. Is this a wise move or one that will end up being very costly in the long run?

Ultimately, pet insurance will not be worth it for a healthy pet, but will be extremely necessary for one that is very ill. But since we are unable to see the future and know if our pet will become seriously ill, how do we go about understanding if insurance is worthwhile?

Ultimately, the amount of money that can be saved by taking out an insurance policy for your cat or puppy will be great should they need excessive treatment. Therefore, the benefits of purchasing it far outweigh the risks of not having your kitty or puppy covered. Yet, there is more to bear in mind. Different policies will provide different levels of cover and many may offer you cover for things you will almost certainly never need. For instance, a cat that never leaves the house will need different cover to a cat who likes to play chicken with cars in the street.

Likewise, if you are able to feed your pet a very focussed pet diet and ensure they get plenty of exercise, you will also rarely need many things that certain policies will offer, whilst the things you may well need cover for might be glaringly absent.

Therefore, in some cases the right pet diet and very focussed care can be as good as purchasing insurance. In the end, it is worth weighing up exactly what your own individual needs are and ensuring you look very carefully at any insurance policies on offer.
