Tinnitus symptoms - knowing the causes behind tinnitus

Tinnitus is not a disorder on its own, rather it is caused due to several other problems and the combination of all those is together gives rise to tinnitus symptoms. It is due to the disorders that affects the ear and generally accompanied by hearing a continuous ringing in the ear. Read on to understand what might cause tinnitus.
- Exposure to loud noise or damage to the inner ear is the major reason contributing to tinnitus than any other factors; it is extremely prevalent in youngsters and those in military working close to the artillery in the army.
- If there has been a history of sinusitis then one may hear continuous ringing in the ear but not necessary that sinusitis means that it will result to tinnitus but since sinusitis has ear, nose and throat connection, tinnitus may be a possibility.
- Ear infection can also be a cause of tinnitus; infections in the inner or outer ear are among common tinnitus symptoms. When no known cause of tinnitus can be found, stress and depression is another cause that points to tinnitus. Stress and depression can aggravate the tinnitus symptoms too. Other conditions are high blood pressure, ear wax accumulation that obstruct hearing and also certain medications such as antibiotics and aspirin, have as their side effects that causes tinnitus. But resolving these issues resolves tinnitus.

Since so many different factors may lead to tinnitus it is very difficult to identify the root cause, the above causes were due to general reasons, but tinnitus may be caused due to serious ailments too. Let us look at some of those ailments which can be hidden tinnitus symptoms:
- Constricted flow of blood in the head and neck can cause tinnitus; the medical terminology is Atherosclerosis which is caused by the accumulation of plaque in the arteries.
- When a tumour in the brain is removed patients can hear ringing in the ears after the tumour has been operated away, it is because of the increased pressure on the insides of the brain and this effect is called benign intracranial hypertension.
- The damage of ear nerve due to viral infection may also cause tinnitus. The Meniere's disease which is responsible for various inner ear problems and it is caused by the imbalance of the ear fluid pressure. There is the Glomus tumour, which is a bundle of blood vessels close to the ear can also cause tinnitus. Lesions in the intracranial vascular region, malformations of aneurisms, acoustic neuroma, benign tumour especially in the ear vicinity, abnormal blood flow to ear etc can bring about tinnitus symptoms.

By now you might have got the idea that there is no certain cause that leads to tinnitus symptoms but many and the list described here is not even complete. Number of other disorders can bring about tinnitus symptoms. Living a healthy life style and proper treatment of existing health conditions is the only effective way to keep tinnitus at bay. Or else step by step tracing to the root of the problem and eliminating is the only choice left to cure tinnitus.
