Sun is the ultimate source of energy. The Energy obtained from sunlight is called Solar Energy. The sunlight is a renewable source of energy which is freely and abundantly available, like other natural sources of energy for example: wind, water.
The Solar Energy can be classified in two main categories depending on its uses:
a) Solar Active (Direct Conversion)

a) Solar active: In this category the solar energy is directly converted for its usefulness. It is converted to Solar Thermal and Solar Photovoltaic.
Solar Thermal also known for Heating Application is used to collect and convert sun energy to heat energy. This application is useful for heating water, air and is used for cooking, drying, steam generation etc..
Solar Photovoltaic is direct conversion of solar energy to electrical energy by using Solar Silicon Cell. The electricity generated is used directly or through battery storage system, these are widely used in rural areas for lighting purposes. The villages that do not enjoy the power facility are provided electricity through solar photovoltaic cells.
b) Solar Passive energy is used buildings where these are installed so as to maximum utilize the solar energy. The Electricity generated is used for various purposes like lighting homes, air conditioning, water heating etc…
Thus, the energy derived from the sun is in form of Heat and in form of Light. You need to install Solar Panels on the roofs of your houses or your building terrace. These Solar Panels convert sun’s energy to DC Current and the inverter changes DC Current to AC Current, which is widely used by you home appliances, like television, computer, lamps, fans, lights, refrigerators etc.. This technology may require a lot of investment, initially, but later on prove to be cost-effective method.
Solar Energy has enormous uses like:

4. Passive solar heating systems do not need solar collector. These are used in buildings and are installed in walls and floors in such a way that it absorbs heat and warms up buildings. This helps to keep rooms warmer and well lit, reducing electricity bills.
Solar Energy which is abundantly available is not only useful but also cost-effective.
These are more eco-friendly as it does not emit harmful gases during conversion of solar energy to thermal or electric energy.
