In today’s communication and business driven world, first impressions can be more important than any other factor for personal success. Personal appearance shows attention to detail, style, and a level of effort that can place some individuals in advantageous positions. One of the most neglected areas of appearance are the teeth.

During the first 10 seconds of any interpersonal interaction, an unconscious test, a judging of appearance and status, of intelligence and power takes place. All this takes place without words, and is based solely on appearance. The human face comprises several power regions, including the eye brows, the eyes, and the mouth. When individuals make conversation with each other, their ability to dominate the conversation or be made submissive are determined by the other individual’s ability to effectively communicate using the power regions in the face.

The importance of dental presentation can not be understated. While human resource groups could never openly admit to hiring discrimination based on dental hygiene or appearance, the appearance of abscesses or greyed teeth may indicate to an interviewer a worker who has poor attention to detail, poor work ethic, and can’t even be bothered to brush their teeth in the morning. A bright, clear smile, on the other hand, can help show to an interviewer that the interviewee has a strong attention to personal hygiene, has consistent hygiene habits that can carry across to work habits, and a beautiful smile to go along with it!

For some individual due to work or life situations, it is not always possible to have a naturally beautiful set of teeth. For these individuals, who may be missing a tooth due to a sports injury, had a tooth removed due to decay or other oral disease, or is simply wanting to improve their dental appearance, dental implants can be a cost effective solution to creating a beautiful smile.

Almost all dental implants today are root-form tooth implants, meaning they are almost identical in shape and location to a real tooth, only differing in material. Dental implants have a high success rate of 95%, and the number of potential complications resulting from implants are minimal. There are very few contraindications for a dental implant, meaning most individuals will qualify for dental implants.

As our society grows more competitive, and competition for quality job positions grow, it’s necessary to take every step you can to improve yourself both physically and mentally. While there are limits on what we can do to prepare ourselves mentally for job and financial success in the world, don’t ever forget there is more to a job interview than simply putting on a formal dress or a suit. A suit or formal dress for an interview may show an interviewer that you are capable of wearing an outfit, but having a beautiful smile and visage can show the love and attention that you put in to taking care of your health, and can positively reflect on what others think of you. While dental implants are an investment, in the competitive world we now live in, they can be a part of the different between a great job, and a mediocre one.
