There are a number of ways to prevent yeast infection that don't involve drugs with their negative side effects. These are natural ways of treating your infection that are simple and straightforward. Here you'll discover some simple ways to prevent yeast infection occurring.

But before we get into that, let's see what causes your yeast / Candida infection symptoms. The symptoms are actually the result of the overgrowth in your body of the naturally occurring Candida albicans fungi that exists in all of us. Normally, your friendly bacteria helps to keep this yeast-like fungi in check so that it doesn't overgrow, causing Candida (yeast infections).

An important point to note is that the fungus loves moist, dark, warm places. What it doesn't enjoy are dry, airy, light locations. Which is why infections are commonly found in and around the reproductive organs, anus, mouth, etc. And so this gives us our first clue as to how to prevent yeast infection spring up through the overgrowth and spread of the Candid albicans fungi...

Don't wear tight-fitting under garments that don't allow the area to 'breathe.' In other words, underwear made from nylon and other man-made fibers should be avoided. It's better and healthier to wear looser-fitting cotton undies. Secondly, always change out of wet or damp swim and gym wear as soon as possible. In terms of other clothes, it's best not to wear tight jeans, etc., as these will only help to trap moisture.

Another issue is the use of perfumed feminine sprays, douches, etc. These are advised against as they can alter the pH in the area. This can aid fungal growth. Warm, clean water should be used instead. And if you use perfumed tampons, then these have the same effect, so change to natural tampons instead.

Now to intercourse. It's important to note that although intercourse cannot actually cause a yeast infection, it can be transferred between partners. Now, you can use condoms, but even these can be a problem since many have spermicides that can aid fungal growth too. The safest way is to abstain from intercourse until your infection has clearly gone away.

And now to your diet. Since it is a yeast-like fungus, Candida albicans needs sugar to feed on in order to grow. So you need to avoid sugar in all its forms, including in many tinned and packed foods such as baked beans, etc. So before buying always read the label. In addition, since refined carbohydrates quickly break-down into sugar, avoid these too.

Finally, if you take antibiotics, be aware that they can kill-off the good bacteria -- which you need to keep the fungus under control -- as well as the intended bad bacteria. So if you are suffering from a yeast infection, talk to your doctor about a more harmless replacement.

These are some simple ways to prevent yeast infection spoiling your daily life. But these are only just the beginning if you want to prevent recurring yeast infections from causing you some potentially serious health problems over time...
